Nick can learn so much - also for the rest of us, who would not try this out. Also,

- no alcohol during the test. Or maybe a 5th "party " week. Heavy drinking and omega 6 do not go well together, if you are a mouse.

Yeah, that's a good point, but it depends on what his baseline is. Ω-6 makes alcohol worse, for sure, but if that's his baseline then he should stick with what he is doing.

If he avoids alcohol he is making Ω-6 look better.

Fructose is also a confounder. The combination of high LA and high fructose does a number on the liver.

I actually wonder how much difference it will make, unless he mainlines corn oil. From what I've seen anecdotally, he seems to eat a relatively high-PUFA diet already: sesame oil, lots of nuts, farmed fish, chicken, bacon..

Now he certainly could make it worse, but he's not exactly on a low-LA diet from what I can tell. The fact that he is still healthy despite this probably means he is genetically lucky in detoxifying PUFA LOPS.

Could be, but he's at at 1:1 6/3 ratio, as I recall. High PUFA. That's why I mentioned that he should drop Ω-3 if he wants to do a real test.

1:1 of what, adipose? Whole blood? RBCs? Estimated intake?

I consider high-PUFA even if balanced pretty dangerous heh. But yea, good point.

My own personal experience since not eating seed oil (or even straight seeds) since 2012 is that very quickly I stopped getting sunburn and can tolerate any amount of sun exposure. I can be out all day even in the height of summer in shorts and vest and don't burn. I don't even sweat and stay cool to the touch. It's fascinating! Before ditching seeds and seed oil I was intolerant of the heat and burned very, very easily. It's so much easier now!

Will it matter if PUFA intake is via nuts and cold pressed oils vs eating fried foods?

No, it doesn't make a difference. Cold-pressed oils are worse, nuts also lower cholesterol, which is a sign of seed oil damage.

Ironically over-used oil is probably safer, because the PUFAs are already degraded.

So the body doesn't absorb degraded lipids?

It seems an important point because people do warn all the time about fried foods and heated oils.

Why are nuts regarded as health foods and I wonder if there are any studies have ill-effects of nut consumption.

Though nuts are expensive and traditionally weren't consumed in large amounts.

It does absorb degraded lipids.

But the lipids degrade in your body after you consume them, and at that point they have years to degrade, as they are stored in adipose tissue and cell membranes.

Nuts cause LDL to lower, because the fats in nuts degrade. LDL lowering from dietary fats is associated with worse outcomes.

I'm surprised that Omega-3 is protective of sunburn ... I thought it was all PUFA. I recall @ExFatLoss having done his salmon experiment and getting sunburned from the DHA. https://www.exfatloss.com/p/ex115salmon-review-dont-eat-fish
