My mother has gotten senile. So when she recently told me about how she thought she had some sort of genetic folate absorption problem. Then things went downhill...
Have you considered that the folate supplementation in the apparent absence of a b complex led to a niacin deficiency which also causes canker sores. My experience has been similar with just folate but supplementing the same amount of folate in a b complex did not lead to canker sores.
I take Methyl Folate from Mercola. It is folate with 5-MTHF (which is especially helpful for anyone who has problems with methylation.
I started taking it when I take NAC, which affects methylation. I also take these with TMG.
I honestly cannot remember why it is important to take these three together, but Chris Masterjohn explains it in one of his videos. I suppose I should watch it again so I still know what I’m talking about. :)

Did you take a tablet daily?

Thank you for the delightful 1939 article "Results of the Self-Selection of Diets by Young Children". Fascinating.
Even in 1939 they recognized that white flour and sugar always had detrimental effects when introduced to "primitive" cultures.
