Quick Study Analysis: "Are Vegetable Seed Oils Fueling the Obesity Epidemic?"
tl;dr: Time to put up or shut up, or, be mindful of your comments!
This is what I’ve been working on this week.
Tyler is an economist who has done some fascinating work, he’s now turned his eye to the problem of obesity.
Back in October I saw this on X:
Tyler replied:
“Thanks for the feedback. Would love to talk more with you about this as you've done a lot more work on the biochemistry side.”
I read the paper, and we had a terrific Zoom call to discuss it. There are a number of issues/shortcomings in the paper, but overall it’s excellent.
I am now a co-author (that link is to the original version, with my name added) and we are working on fleshing out some of the weak points and correcting some of the errors (seed oil consumption did not start with Crisco, for instance, despite what some claim).
Tyler has done a lot of work that I’ve not seen anywhere else, for instance he found a database of food composition by individual product:
He looks at this from a number of perspectives I have not seen done elsewhere, and which I did not explore in my obesity post.
So enjoy, while I get back to work.
