tl;dr: The rollercoaster continues...

Happy New Year!

We got the January thaw, as expected. This is a typical New England meteorological event where it warms up, rains like mad, and all the snow runs off the ski mountains.

Then it gets cold again. The forecasted high for Sunday is 8F. Sigh. At least we’ve gotten a little snow since the thaw.

For New Year’s Day, we hiked up to this pond. It was raining at the road, and snowing at the pond. I wore my old minimalist Russell Moccasins, custom-made for job like this, but no micro-spikes or crampons. They did great, although by mile 6 they were pretty damp. Need to apply some more water-proofing!
